It is August 2028–the last year of humanity’s existence.

Or so it seems. Widespread plagues and natural disasters are happening all over the world, and there is nothing the scientific community can do to stop them. Why they are happening, and what can be done, remain a mystery.

On the moon, a scientific expedition is witness to an astounding sight–one that has miraculous consequences back home. Although there are dissident voices against the seemingly divine interventions that are occurring, these are gradually silenced, as it becomes obvious to all that what is occurring is from God.

Christmas 2028 – does it happen here on Earth? Or is it celebrated in another realm altogether?

I was completely immersed in this book, and there were a lot of reasons. Chiefly, it was because of Mr. Ruffolo’s writing style. He writes in the present tense, and tense has two meanings here. This was, by far, one of the hardest books to put down, and one that I wished could have gone on. It was so here-and-now, so breathless, that I was hooked from page one.

Another reason that I loved it was because it was so pro-family and so rooted in Catholic Christianity. It’s refreshing to see the faith supported in such a beautiful way.

I’ve come away with the need to read more of Mr. Ruffolo’s work. You can add another fan to your list, sir!

Gabriel Chalice edition by Frank Ruffolo Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I enjoy reading good Christian fiction. This book did not satisfy.

It started out with scientists on the moon discovering a new cave with the angel Gabriel's crystal chalice in it. The only possible reference to God in the whole book is the brief mention that the Greek letters of alpha and omega appeared on the various alters that magically appeared in three different locations. Glory was not given to God, instead people bowed down and prayed in front of this chalice and the alters. My Christian belief is that the angel Gabriel would be horrified by this.

Other reviewers said this was a "good Christian read". More specifically, this is a "Catholic" read. The repeated solution to physical and environmental disasters was to say another rosary. To save the Russian people from a plague, God was not appealed to. Instead, they dedicated the sick to Mary...and said a world wide rosary.

Other than that, the story revolves around many volcanos erupting to plummet the Earth into a mini ice age. There is a plague in Russia and when that is solved, another plague among HIV and AIDS patients. Through it all, the alters and the chalice glow more and more brightly which causes many churches around the world to flock back to the Catholic Church. Ordinary people have repented and they too flock to the Catholic Church.

At the end of the story, the chalice is glowing so brightly that it's light joins together with the light from the three alters and a cross is seen over Jerusalem. Christ doesn't return, if that's what you're waiting for. Instead, a golden pedestal is built and surrounded by bullet-proof glass so that the chalice can be displayed for all to see. Then peace returns to Earth and a new Eden forms on the moon.
I found this book to be so captivating I neglected alot of housework!!! Incredible story and writer,I felt like this was really happening and I couldn't wait to get to next chapter. Frank has a great gift of writing and he also made me believe more in God and I appreciate that. Great read super great storyteller.... Loretta Fiscus
"Gabriel's Chalice" by Frank A. Ruffolo is a book with an inventive story weaving the old and sacred into a modern atmosphere. His style of writing leaves me wanting to slow down and reread to try and discover the diamonds that lay hidden in plain sight. In true Sci-fi style Ruffolo merged the headlines of our day with the possibilities that exist somewhere just beyond our sight.
In a world full of books that are published just to make a quick buck, it is refreshing to see one that actually has an important message - Faith in God. Gabriel's Chalice is a gripping and very real approach to our world and the direction we are heading in with a healthy dose of the fantastic thrown in for good measure. The characters are easy to relate to and identify with, and the injection of everyday life keeps the story grounded. This is definitely a page turner and I just could not put it down. Whether you are a believer or not, this is a must read. Honestly, if you're not, by the end you just might be (a believer that is!) Frank A. Ruffolo, thanks so much for sharing this amazing story with us all. Looking forward to what you are cooking up next!
The first sentence was a warning of how bad the writing would be, and by the time I got through 1/4 of the book I couldn't take it any more. I was hoping for a good Sci-fi story with a strong Christian influence. Instead, I went straight into my mental editor mode, thinking of the many better ways to have written the sentences. This is not a Christian story- there is no worship or adoration of God nor appeals to His mercy to save the world from the end, just saying the Rosary a lot and the worship of Mary and of the Chalice. I didn't get to the end, I couldn't take it any more, but I understand that Jesus doesn't even show up- unlike the Bible, where he DOES.
Then there were the many, many science mistakes which made me unable to suspect my belief and get into the story. What scientist, having survived a moonquake and seeing it open up a cavern on a hillside would be foolish enough to risk his life by entering it because he thought it would be "Cool"??? If a scientist is the world expert on something, why would ANY government allow him to risk his life to go off planet to do research into a mystery when the findings could have just as easily been sent to him on Earth? Especially when there seem to be regular flights there and back all the time which could have brought him whatever samples he had wanted to see?
I want my money back and my 1.5 hours spent slogging through what I managed to. Since neither of those is likely to happen, I will settle for warning anyone who is considering reading this- get it from the library first.
